The Hindu University of America offers a Certificate Program in Bhagavad Gita through Sanskrit (BGTS) that prepares students to achieve proficiency in reading, speaking, and comprehending the Bhagavad Geeta in Sanskrit. This intensive four-year program is designed for students with no prior knowledge of Sanskrit, except for familiarity with the Devanagari script. The faculty leads students through the Bhagavad Geeta verse by verse, while explaining both the meanings of the verses and the nuances of the language. The program aims to enable students to study the Bhagavad Geeta directly without translation or mediation and gain proficiency in conversational Sanskrit. At the end of the program, students will be able to access other Shastras in Sanskrit with ease. The program represents a foundation curriculum for students of all ages, from high school onwards.
Throughout history, the Bhagavad Gita has inspired many, including Adi SankarAchArya, Swami Dayananda Saraswati, Rishi Aurobindo, Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Einstein, Dr. Albert Schweizer, Aldous Huxley, Carl Jung, and Henry David Thoreau. The program's learning objectives include gaining proficiency in appreciating the Bhagavad Geeta, reading and pronouncing Sanskrit syllables correctly, listening and comprehending Sanskrit conversations, speaking grammatically accurate Sanskrit, understanding the structure and patterns of the language, comprehending the verses of the Bhagavad Geeta in both spoken and written Sanskrit, and writing comprehensible passages in Sanskrit.
