Biotech is a vast, extended field requiring new, innovative minds to fulfill the demands of the growing population and diseases. As a result of the demands, there is an ample surge in jobs in Biotechnology. A biotech researcher is a scientific research professional who has advanced education in fields associated with biotechnology, biomedical engineering, biology, biochemistry or other similar disciplines. Biotech researchers usually work for biotechnical firms, pharmaceutical companies, food and agriculture companies, medical organizations, research companies and the government. Biotech researchers might find ways to genetically modify plants, discover new vaccines, invent new medical treatments and discover environmentally healthy alternatives to common materials like fuels.

Working in biotech for many jobs needs only a bachelor's degree, however, to work as a researcher, you basically need a master's degree or Ph.D. as well as experience conducting research. Because such positions need a vast amount of technical knowledge, employers expect researchers to be well-educated.

Job duties differ significantly on the basis of the researcher's specialty. Researchers in organizations that get funding through grants plan and implement studies. They may also create proposals to get funding. After the project is funded, the researcher handles the project to meet grant necessities. Researchers who work in industry may also prepare project proposals for senior executives to approve.

Senior researchers handle project teams. They design project activities and create timelines. Such researchers also assess data and report on outcomes. They may be required to prepare verbal presentations, write reports, and participate in project meetings.

Biotechnology researchers use an array of tools to accomplish their work. These may include electron and optical microscopes, chemistry laboratory tools, radiology, dissection equipment, and computer-based analytical software. Live laboratory animals may also be used. Researchers commonly work with teams of scientists and technicians to complete projects.
