It is an intermediate for Pemetrexed. 3-Butyn-1-ol is a terminal acetylenic compound that is but-1-yne with one of the methyl hydrogens substituted by a hydroxy group. It is a member of butyn-1-ols and a terminal acetylenic compound.
Pemetrexed is a chemotherapy drug and is indicated for use in combination with cisplatin for the treatment of patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma whose disease is either unresectable or who are otherwise not candidates for curative surgery. Its use in non-small cell lung cancer has also been investigated.
