What Is Sleepaway Camp?
233 Gadway Road, Merrill NY, 12955
Sleepaway camp, also called overnight camp, is a camp where children stay for several days, weeks, or even a full summer. Instead of going home at the end of each day, campers sleep in cabins, bunks, tents, or dorm-style housing with other children and trained counselors.
Most sleepaway camps offer a full schedule of activities, meals, rest time, group events, and evening programs. Depending on the camp, children may enjoy:
• Swimming
• Canoeing
• Hiking
• Archery
• Sports
• Arts and crafts
• Theater
• Music
Some camps are traditional and offer a little bit of everything. Others focus on specific interests, such as sports, outdoor adventure, STEM, performing arts, faith, leadership, or special needs support.
