Carbonitriding in Pune is a surface modification process used in metallurgy to increase surface hardness and decrease wear. Carbon and nitrogen atoms diffuse interstitially into the metal, forming slip barriers and elevating the local hardness and modulus. Carbonitriding is frequently applied to low-cost, easily machined low-carbon steel to achieve the surface qualities of more expensive and challenging steel-to-work grades. Carbonitrided components have a surface hardness of 55 to 62 HRC.
