As we know that
there are many types of electrodes available in the market but we need to
choose the appropriate one that fits all sizes.
Here are some of the
tips to consider while selecting the best mild steel electrode.
1. Base metal
A base metal is also
known as a parent metal. It makes sure that the weld is stable and strong. If
there are differences in the match between the base metal and mild steel, there
is a possibility of welding abnormalities and cracking. Hence, if the base
metal is mild steel, the alloy must be mild or at least close to mild. The
thickness of the base metal is also very important. In cases where the base metal
is thin, an electron that has a soft arc, a small scale diameter, and a shallow
penetration should be selected. If we see just the opposite, an electron with a
deep arc and penetration is preferred.
Another factor that
needs to be considered in base metal is the tensile strength. Tensile strength
is known for weakening the strength of the material when it is put under
pressure. Welding
electrode suppliers in India suggest keeping these things in mind.
2. Position of welding
Welding
consumables manufacturers in India say that the direction or position in which a
welder holds the welding bead is referred to as the "welding position.
Gravity also plays a role in the molten filler match in the welding position.
There are four types of welding positions: flat, vertical, horizontal, and
overhead.
Almost all mild
steel electrodes are said to be all-position electrodes. However, every
electrode must hold its specific position, or else the outcome will be welding
problems. It is hence preferable to select an electrode that suits the
position.
3. Welding current
Electrodes keep
going on AC, which is alternating current, or DC, which is direct current. Both
of them specify the contraction of the current in welding machines.
If the electrodes
are labelled as specifications, that means that the polarity will change. But
if it is labelled as DC, then that means that the polarity will remain
constant. Deeper penetration is possible in welding because of positive
electrodes. It has reversed polarity. Negative electrodes have direct polarity,
which results in fast melting of the electrodes. Always check the current
compatibility before selecting the electrode.
4. Other factors
According to welding
consumable suppliers, apart from the above-mentioned factors, there are
a few more factors that are related to selecting the right electrode.
They are:
The welding cost
Welding quality and
finishing
Type of application
Environmental job
conditions, etc.
As we said, there
are a lot of electrodes available on the market, but selecting the right one
for your welding purpose completely depends on you. Along with many options for
electrodes, there are many competitors. Selecting one from the top brands is
suggested.
Three were just a
few of the tips that one should keep in mind while selecting an electrode for
the laser welding process.
