To be honest, stem cells are no less than a miracle. Stem cells or stem cells are cells that have the potential to develop into any part of the body.
In addition, it can be converted into any other type of cells. According to scientists, these cells can be used to repair any cell in the body. Thus if heart cells are damaged, they can be repaired by stem cells. Similarly, if the cells of the cornea of the eye are damaged, they too can be grown and transplanted by stem cells.
King George's Medical University (KGMU) has the country's first government stem cell bank. The placenta and umbilical cord (umbilical cord) are usually thrown away in biomedical waste after giving birth, whereas the blood present in the cord contains most of the stem cells. Instead of throwing these cords, they will be deposited in the bank. After cutting the umbilical cord from the body of the newborn, the blood present in the umbilical cord will be extracted and collected in the kit. After checking the quality of blood, it will be preserved and sent to stem cell bank. There stem cells will be extracted from the blood. These stem cells will be preserved for 21 years at -196 degree centigrade.
One child's stem cells can be used to make cells for everyone in the family. Stem cells collected from the fetus or placenta have been more useful. Stem cells taken from the blood or bone marrow of an adult are slow to develop, whereas cells from the embryo develop into cells of every organ. For example, if a person has blood cancer, then the saved stem cell can be used to treat the sick person. Along with this, some stem cells are also such that people other than the family can also be treated. These are called donor stem cells. The facility of getting stem cell preserved in the hospital will be free. However, patients will have to pay processing fees while taking stem cells.
So far stem cells have been used in 75 types of diseases. Teeth can also be grown from these cells. Muscle repair is common. Similarly, treatment of incurable diseases like Alzheimer's, heart diseases, cancer, arthritis is also possible with this technique. Along with government hospitals in India, stem cell treatment is also being done in private hospitals. Private hospitals charge hefty fees for this.
