The main difference between CPT
internships and OPT jobs is that in CPT internships the companies collaborate
with the universities to enrol their existing fresh employees for study. Due to
the fact that CPT is an internship and under this program F-1 visa holders are
allowed to work only for one year the companies have to pay less to the
candidates. On the other hand OPT
jobs
are either done after completing first year of a degree course from a
university or college that offers OPT education. In this situation the student
is not already associated with any commercial organisation. The OPT candidates
can work for 2 years under the F 1 visa. In this situation the companies do not
have to repeat the hiring process every year looking for new candidates however
the salaries of OPT candidates are usually higher than CPT candidates. Hence it
can be said that both CPT and OPT candidates bring with them benefits, and it
is up to the companies to decide what they require.
